Gaming Authority gives 400,000 fine to PokerStars EU
The Gaming Authority (Ksa) has imposed a 400,000 euro fine on online poker website PokerStars EU. The website focused on the Dutch market without a permit, the watchdog announced on Monday.
The KSA researched the website in the second half of 2018 and discovered that it was possible to make internet payments with iDeal at PokerStars. A Dutch-language contact form was also available and two Dutch institutions for addiction care were mentioned. Online gambling will become legal in the Netherlands from 2021. “We will continue what we do until the new law comes into effect,” says a Ksa spokesperson. Last month, a fine of 470,000 euros was imposed on Unibet, a gambling company based in Malta, for targeting Dutch players without a license. PokerStars is also registered in Malta.
